What Honda Cars Have Apple CarPlay?

August 28th, 2023 by

The last two decades have brought a remarkable revolution in auto technology. Where prior generations of buyers once focused on factors such as tires, gas mileage, and engine capacity to differentiate one vehicle from the next, today’s drivers have to consider display screens, instrument panels, power capabilities, and connectivity before deciding.

Connectivity is an evolving category, but it generally has a few mainstays, such as Apple CarPlay. This software from the maker of iPhones serves as an operating system that allows you to connect your cellphone and all you have stored on it to your vehicle for easy access while driving. It’s one of two major software standards in most cars, along with Android Auto.

As you prepare to visit Performance Honda to consider your next set of wheels, you might wonder which Honda cars come with Apple CarPlay. Our team has taken the time to document the answer, giving you easy comparisons between sedans, SUVs, minivans, and other vehicles.

How Does Apple CarPlay Work?

Safety considerations drive the adoption and use of Apple CarPlay. The software allows you to integrate your cellphone and some of its most useful driving-related apps into your car’s infotainment system. In doing so, the software removes the need to handle your phone while driving, which can result in dangerous distractions.

The two most obvious functions are phone calls and text messaging. Linking the software to the infotainment system allows you to answer and make phone calls and send messages using voice activation rather than the keyboard. You might also find yourself accessing mapping apps to get directions to your destinations, music and internet radio apps, and podcast apps.

In most cases, setting up Apple CarPlay is nearly automatic. The primary step involves connecting your phone to the car using a USB cable. Once connected, you should start receiving prompts asking you to give permission for your phone to connect with CarPlay. You only have to do this once; the app should launch every time you connect your phone through that USB cable.

Which Honda Models Have Apple CarPlay?

Apple CarPlay and its sister app for Android phones, Android Auto, are standard across the automotive landscape. Here’s a list and overview of the Honda models that make CarPlay a common feature:

Honda Accord

One of the best-selling sedans of all time, the Honda Accord, is still going strong more than four decades after Honda first introduced the car. The Accord is an affordable midsize sedan with room for five occupants and is currently available in your choice of six trims.

As Car and Driver magazine notes, the current model years tend to evolve gradually because “why fix what’s not broken?” The Accord has a modestly sized standard engine with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder powertrain that puts out either 192 horsepower or 204 horsepower, depending on your choice of trim. The Accord also comes with a hybrid option. Upper-level cars in the lineup let you access Apple CarPlay on a whopper of a screen at 12.3 inches when measured diagonally.

Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is the older sister of the Accord, and Honda brought it to the market in 1972. The Civic is a more affordable option compared to the Accord if you don’t need as much space. Available as a sedan or a hatchback, the Civic currently offers a choice of three engine configurations, including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower, a turbocharged 1.5-liter with up to 200 horsepower, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder driving 315 horsepower.

Honda CR-V

Apple CarPlay is also available throughout the Honda line of SUVs, such as the compact Honda CR-V. Offering riding space for up to five passengers, the CR-V comes with a 1.5-liter engine producing up to 190 horsepower with 179 lb-ft of torque. CarPlay is available in the CR-V LX, EX, and Sport Hybrid trims. The CR-V merits recognition for its fuel efficiency, registering 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway for the entry-level models. The hybrid CR-V all-wheel drive measures 40 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

Honda HR-V

Considered a top pick for first-time buyers and Generation Z, the Honda HR-V compact SUV allows you to drive entertained using Apple CarPlay. The HR-V runs on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and is available in three trims. The engine produces 158 horsepower. In front-wheel drive, the HR-V delivers 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive version rolls the EPA-estimated gas mileage back to 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Honda Passport

Other SUVs, such as the popular Honda Passport, also have Apple CarPlay. The Passport is Honda’s entry into the competitive midsize category and is geared toward adventures with built-in mud, snow, and sand modes. The Passport gets modest gas mileage rankings, producing an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg combined. The Passport’s sister vehicle, the Honda Pilot, also comes with CarPlay.

Honda Odyssey

If you need significant space for your family, you don’t have to sacrifice Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Honda Odyssey minivan will link your iPhone to the infotainment system so you can access your favorite apps. The Odyssey offers enough space to comfortably seat eight people, with the appropriate bells and whistles for an enjoyable ride. As a big vehicle, you should have modest expectations for gas mileage. The various trims will get you an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Honda Fit

While Honda discontinued this small hatchback sedan in the 2020 model year, you may still be able to find it as a used car. If so, the Fit does offer Apple CarPlay for cellphone integration. The Fit operates with a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, 130-horsepower engine.
