What Is Honda Sensing?

Honda Sensing is an intelligent package of driver-assistive and safety technologies intended to bring your attention to things you might miss when driving. Honda understands that modern life is filled with many distractions, so paying attention to your surroundings while driving can be challenging. That’s why Honda carefully studies real-world situations and employs advanced technology to ensure everyone has the safest possible driving condition while on the road.

The Honda Sensing suite was initially introduced with the 2015 Honda CR-V Touring model and has been incorporated into every new Honda model since. Although Honda Sensing has been around for several years now, the technology is becoming increasingly common in Honda automobiles.

Honda’s comprehensive sensing suite of safety systems comprises 10 driver-assistive and safety features that work together to keep you and your passengers safe, regardless of your destination or how long the trip. These include:

• Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS).
• Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM).
• Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

Collision Mitigation Braking System

With multiple sensors and cameras strategically positioned, the Honda Sensing Collision Mitigation Braking System can help avoid frontal crashes with early detection. When the system verifies that a frontal collision with another car or a pedestrian is inevitable, the intelligent system will automatically apply the brakes.

Road Departure Mitigation System

This smart feature adjusts braking and steering if you cross spotted lanes without signaling. A tiny camera can spot road markers, warn you if you’re about to leave the road, and take necessary action such as automatically steering you back onto the road and braking if necessary.

Lane Departure Warning

With its cameras, the Lane Departure Warning system can identify lane markings. So, if the system detects that you’re drifting from your lane, it will alert you with a sound and warning lights  until you move back into the lane.

Lane Keeping Assist System

Your long highway drives are now more bearable with Honda’s Lane Keeping Assist System. This safety feature examines the road ahead and makes micro turns to keep you in your lane. You still need to keep your hands firmly placed on the steering wheel.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive Cruise Control lets the driver set the desired speed and following distance in light traffic conditions. If the vehicle in front of you comes to a halt, the system will bring your vehicle to a controlled stop. This greatly reduces the stress of driving in traffic.

Forward Collision Warning

This system works with the Collision Mitigation Braking System, using a tiny camera positioned on top of the windshield. This camera determines collision risks, triggers warnings, and automatically activates brake pressure when necessary.

Cross Traffic Monitor

If there is a car approaching from either side when you reverse your automobile, the Cross Traffic Monitoring system will beep and display directional cues to warn you of the danger. It triggers automatically, and your rearview camera will depict what’s behind your car.

Blind Spot Information System

If you start signaling to make a turn in a certain direction and a car is detected on the corresponding side, the blind-spot information system will alert you immediately. This safety feature helps compliment Honda LaneWatch, and can still function as a standalone tech feature.

Auto High-Beam Headlights

When you’re driving at over 30mph in the dark and the headlight control is in the low-beam position with the activation switch set to automatic, the system automatically switches between high and low beams based on the surrounding conditions.

Honda LaneWatch

From the instance you switch on your right turn signal, a camera positioned on the passenger-side mirror will display live video directly on your screen. This video shows almost four times more than the standard passenger-side exterior mirror.

Can You Deactivate Honda Sensing?

The answer is yes. Honda Sensing is customizable for your convenience. Simply navigate to “Settings” on the central touchscreen, then “Vehicle Settings.” Tap “Drive Assist Setup” to set your Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) warnings, reset your distance warnings for Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and much more.
