Towing Capacity of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Among all five of the trim levels — LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, and Touring — the gas-powered version of the 2022 Honda CR-V has a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. This capacity puts the CR-V on par with several of its direct competitors and above others.

The 2022 CR-V can pull a fair variety of common recreational and functional equipment. For example, a canoe trailer with a capacity for six canoes might weigh 600 to 700 pounds, which means easy hauling behind a 2022 CR-V. Feel like watercrafting? Then you’ll have no problem pulling two small jet skis affixed to a jet ski trailer. If camping’s more your speed, you’re still in luck. Depending on the brand and model, many teardrop and A-frame campers weigh between 600 to 1,500 pounds. A small fishing boat wouldn’t be out of the question, either.

The CR-V is available in three hybrid versions as well: Hybrid EX, Hybrid EX-L, and Hybrid Touring. There are no official specs concerning the towing capacity of the hybrids, but you could estimate the hauling strength of these models based on the engine and motor performance (discussed below). With that in mind, it would be reasonable to assume that the hybrids can tow at least 1,500 pounds.

Under the Hood

One of the components that contribute to a vehicle’s towing capacity is its engine. Both horsepower and torque contribute to the overall pulling power, but torque may be the more important factor. The more torque an engine generates, the less strain it experiences during a towing operation and the lower the rpm required to complete the task.

Under the hood of the gas-powered 2022 Honda CR-V is an inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine that’s capable of generating 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. This amount of power matches or exceeds that of several competitors in the same class.

For the hybrids, you’re looking at an inline four-cylinder engine matched with an AC synchronous permanent-magnet electric motor. The internal combustion engine produces only 143 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque on its own, but the electric motor contributes 181 horsepower. Combined, you get 212 total system horsepower and 232 pound-feet of total torque.

Towing Features on the 2022 Honda CR-V

With the 2022 Honda CR-V, you get several driver-assistance features that contribute to the overall towing performance of the vehicle. For example, Real-Time All-wheel Drive detects when your vehicle requires power to all four wheels, providing additional control and traction to help you pull weights toward the top of your towing limit. Another feature, Vehicle Stability Assist, offers improved control in instances of acceleration, cornering, and braking, which can come in handy when you have added weight behind you.

Two other features that may be helpful in towing situations are Hill Start Assist — which prevents uphill or downhill rolling when you remove your foot from the brake pedal — and Brake Assist — which applies full stopping pressure in emergencies or panic-stop scenarios.

You can get some towing help exteriorly, too. Though Honda doesn’t offer an all-in-one towing package for the 2022 CR-V, the company does offer the components you need to optimize your vehicle for hauling. Items such as hitch balls, trailer hitch harnesses, clips, drawbars, and retaining pins are available as original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products. Because they’re OEM goods, you can be sure that they’ll fit and function appropriately with your 2022 Honda CR-V.

If we don’t have it in stock, you can get what you need through our orders page. What Else Do You Get With the 2022 Honda CR-V?

The 2022 Honda CR-V provides all-around utility, making it an excellent option for all types of drivers. With a fantastic continuously variable transmission, the gas-powered models provide a smooth, dependable ride. For the hybrids, the e-CVT does the same. As you might expect, the hybrids are also terrific when it comes to fuel economy, getting 40 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The gas-powered versions are also impressive. With two-wheel drive, you get 28 and 34 mpg in city and highway driving, respectively. Opt for all-wheel drive and you get 27 and 32 mpg.

On top of that, you get to cruise in comfort. The interior of the CR-V is spacious, providing 102.9 to 105.9 cubic feet of passenger volume, with both the front and the rear rows offering at least 40 inches of legroom. The cargo space is ample, too. Behind the rear row, you get up to 39.2 cubic feet of volume, expandable to 75.8 cubic feet with the row folded down.

The 2022 Honda CR-V can be an excellent economic option for the everyday motorist looking for extra cargo space and hauling capability.
