Honda makes the Accord with two engine options. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 192 horsepower, 192 lb-ft of torque, and goes from zero to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds comes standard in the LX and EX trims. Hybrid models have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 204 horsepower thanks to an electric motor and high-voltage lithium-ion battery. This powertrain goes from zero to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

Ford also has two engines available. Lower trims have the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that puts out 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Top-tier Mustangs come with Ford’s iconic 5.0-liter V-8 engine capable of an impressive 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. The EcoBoost engine clocks a zero to 60 mph time of 5.3 seconds, while the V-8 models race to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

Fuel Efficiency and Practicality

The turbo-four engine of the Accord has a fuel efficiency rating of 29 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway, and 32 mpg combined. On the other hand, the hybrid models have an impressive rating of up to 51 mpg in the city, 44 mpg on the freeway, and 48 mpg combined, making them one of the most fuel-efficient sedans available.

The Ford Mustang EcoBoost engine has EPA-estimated ratings of 22 mpg on surface roads, 33 mpg on the freeway, and 26 mpg combined. Ford’s 5.0-liter V-8 gets 15 mpg city, 24 mpg on the expressway, and 18 mpg combined.

The Accord seats up to five passengers in spacious quarters measuring 105.7 cubic feet of passenger volume. You also get 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space.

The Mustang also accommodates up to five passengers, although it may be a bit snug. The vehicle offers a passenger volume of 82.8 cubic feet and a trunk space of 13.5 cubic feet.

The Mustang makes the most sense if you value power and speed over fuel economy. But the Accord offers plenty of performance with impressive efficiency and has more passenger and cargo volume, which makes it the overall more practical choice.
